Jens Cajuste Rejoins Ipswich on Season-Long Loan from Napoli
Swedish international midfielder Jens Cajuste has returned to Ipswich Town for a second consecutive season, rejoining on a year-long loan from Serie A side Napoli.
Cajuste was a key figure in Town’s Premier League campaign last year, starting 25 matches. Manager Kieran McKenna admitted that “a lot of work” went into securing his return, especially now that the club is back in the Championship.
On the eve of the new season, Ipswich have finalised a deal for the 25-year-old despite heavy interest from clubs across Europe this summer.
According to the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star, the loan deal includes a €1 million (£870,000) fee, with a €6.5 million (£5.6 million) obligation to buy if the club secures promotion.
Cajuste boosts a midfield that currently consists of Azor Matusiwa, Jack Taylor, and Cameron Humphreys. He reunites with Matusiwa, his former teammate at French club Reims during the 2022/23 season.
The midfielder’s transfer was reportedly registered before today’s 12pm deadline, making him eligible for tomorrow’s Championship opener against Birmingham City. However, whether he will feature remains uncertain due to a limited pre-season.
Meanwhile, Ipswich are believed to be close to confirming another loan addition—Ajax striker Chuba Akpom.
Speaking to the EADT and Ipswich Star, Cajuste expressed his delight at returning to Suffolk, describing it earlier this year as fitting him “like a hand in a glove.”
“I’m really happy everything has come together and thrilled to be back,” he said. “All summer I was hopeful of returning and now I’m excited to link up with my teammates again.
“Last season was one of the best experiences of my career—amazing camaraderie, a great team spirit, and working under a top-class manager who I respect immensely.
“The Championship is a real battle—one of the toughest leagues in world football—and that’s a challenge I’m eager to face.”
