Godwin ObajeRangers Pundit Dismisses Celtic Star Greg Taylor as Ibrox Option
A former Rangers star has cast doubt on the possibility of Celtic’s Greg Taylor making a shock move to Ibrox, suggesting that the player may not be worth the hassle. Kris Boyd’s comments came after pundit Derek Ferguson weighed in on the debate, stating that Taylor doesn’t have the quality to improve Rangers’ left-back department.
Ferguson, brother of interim manager Barry Ferguson, told Ibrox News: “He’s a good player and he’s played well over the past few years with Celtic, but the thing is, is it worth the hassle for him and his family? You’ve got to figure that in.” Ferguson also highlighted the potential for Jefte, a young player with a lot to learn and improve, to develop within the team.
The pundit’s assessment of Taylor was lukewarm, stating: “It’d be headline-catching, and I know he’s got connections with Rangers because he was at the club as a youngster and did ever so well, but for me – and this is not having a go at him – there are better options out there for Rangers if they are to raise the standards.” Ferguson emphasized that while Taylor is a good player, there are better options available.
Meanwhile, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to keep Taylor at the club, praising his performance in a recent 5-1 win over Kilmarnock. Rodgers said: “I thought Greg Taylor was brilliant for us, because when you play against a man-marking system, you have to be able to rotate and be flexible and not mechanical.” The Celtic manager highlighted Taylor’s importance in creating space and playing like a midfielder, stating that he’ll always fight to keep him at the club.
As Taylor’s contract negotiations continue, Rodgers will be hoping to convince him to stay, but it remains to be seen whether the player will commit to the club or explore other options.
