Wolverhampton Wanderers are intensifying their pursuit of Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin, with the Premier League outfit prepared to act swiftly should the Ibrox club choose to cash in on the Belgian international this summer.
Raskin, 24, has long been on Wolves’ radar, with sources indicating the West Midlands side have been monitoring the former Standard Liège player for over 18 months. Despite a recent reshuffle behind the scenes at Molineux, interest in the dynamic midfielder remains undiminished.
Record Sport understands that Raskin’s representatives have been aware of Wolves’ interest since it first emerged in January 2024. And with the Belgian breaking into the national team setup towards the end of last season, interest has now spread across Europe — with Porto, Marseille and Fiorentina all credited with admiration for the player.
Raskin’s profile has soared since his arrival at Ibrox, where his combative yet cultured midfield displays have made him a standout figure. While Aston Villa have also been linked with a potential big-money swoop, Wolves are unlikely to let their Midlands rivals steal a march after tracking the player for so long.
Wolves have undergone significant structural changes behind the scenes, with Domenico Teti recently installed as technical director following the departure of Matt Hobbs. However, it was Hobbs who originally identified Raskin as a prime target — and his successor, former Everton defender Matt Jackson, now director of player recruitment and development, is said to share that enthusiasm.
Jackson believes Raskin is more than capable of making the leap to Premier League football, and Wolves’ admiration for the player has not waned despite changes to their football operations structure.
At Ibrox, Raskin still has two years remaining on his contract, and new Rangers head coach Russell Martin reportedly views him as central to his summer rebuild. The 39-year-old, who recently succeeded Philippe Clement, is understood to have made it clear to the board that Raskin’s presence is key to his vision.
Nonetheless, Rangers could be forced into a decision if the Belgian chooses not to commit to a new deal. Sporting director Kevin Thelwell is believed to be preparing a lucrative new contract offer in a bid to tie Raskin down beyond 2027. But failure to secure an extension could prompt the club to entertain bids, with Wolves ready to pounce.
Raskin, for his part, appears to be open to a move south of the border. It’s believed the player sees the Premier League as his natural next step, and Wolves’ long-standing interest — coupled with a pathway to regular top-flight football — could prove persuasive.
With suitors circling and Rangers at a contract crossroads, the coming weeks will be decisive for both club and player. Whether the Light Blues opt to keep hold of one of their prized assets or sanction a move that could help fund their summer rebuild remains to be seen.
