Tottenham Urged to Hijack Everton’s Move for ‘Amazing’ Douglas Luiz as Levy Faces Crucial Midfield Call

Tottenham Hotspur have been strongly advised to step in and hijack Everton’s attempt to sign Douglas Luiz, with suggestions that Daniel Levy must not allow the “amazing” midfielder to slip through the club’s fingers this summer.

Spurs are actively in the market for a new holding midfielder, with Thomas Frank looking to bolster his options in the number six role. Despite minutes handed to Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma during pre-season, neither player delivered a convincing performance in the recent friendly against Reading—leaving the door open for reinforcements.

Everton are believed to be pushing ahead with a move for Luiz, with reports from Italy suggesting the Merseyside club are now only around £9 million away from Juventus’ valuation. The Serie A side are said to be demanding a total package worth £34 million, while Everton’s latest offer is around £26 million.

However, Tottenham are not out of the race. TBR Football reports that Spurs have already held exploratory talks over a move for Luiz, and significantly, the Brazilian is said to be keen on a return to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old, who was previously a standout performer at Aston Villa, is reportedly open to joining Spurs, a move that would bring him back to familiar territory. Luiz’s prior Premier League displays have not gone unnoticed, with former Manchester United captain Roy Keane previously calling the midfielder “amazing” for his commanding presence and ability to dictate tempo in the middle of the park.

With competition intensifying, Tottenham may have an edge by offering a potential swap solution. Everton are known admirers of Yves Bissouma, who is now considered surplus to requirements in North London. Spurs are reportedly open to parting ways with the Malian international, and offering Bissouma in a player-plus-cash proposal could help Tottenham leapfrog Everton in the chase for Luiz.

Bissouma, 28, is understood to want to remain in England and could view a move to Merseyside as an opportunity to relaunch his career. While his time at Spurs has been inconsistent, he did impress during the Europa League final, suggesting his best form may still be unlocked in the right environment.

From a business perspective, Levy has a crucial decision to make. Allowing Luiz to join a direct Premier League rival, especially when the player has already signalled his willingness to join Tottenham, would represent a major oversight—particularly when midfield depth is a clear priority heading into the new campaign.

Fabio Paratici remains fully informed about Luiz’s status at Juventus and is reportedly weighing up the club’s next step. But with Everton closing in, time is of the essence if Spurs are to seize this opportunity.

With the clock ticking and Everton edging closer, the message is clear: Tottenham must act now or risk watching another top-tier midfield talent join a rival side.
