Wolves Eye Further Signings After Fer Lopez Arrival, Says Romano

Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to continue their summer rebuild under new manager Vitor Pereira following the signing of Fer Lopez, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealing the club are actively pursuing further additions ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Lopez, 21, became Wolves’ first major summer signing after joining from Celta Vigo. The Spanish midfielder made 17 La Liga appearances last season and is seen as a key long-term acquisition for the Molineux outfit. Despite his relatively modest statistical output — two goals, 0.8 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game — Lopez ranked among the top three in Celta’s squad for attacking metrics such as shots and dribbles per match, underlining his attacking potential.

Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, Romano emphasised that Wolves see Lopez as more than just a short-term fix.

“Fer Lopez is a signing that they really wanted, and it was not easy at all — because maybe in the media it looked like an easy deal, but it was not easy because there were many clubs involved from Spain and also more English clubs interested in the player,” Romano said.

“So Wolves really believe they brought in a top, top talent for the present and the future. Then they will do more. I’m sure they will do more.”

The Midlands club has funds to work with after sanctioning several high-profile departures this summer. Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri left for Manchester United and Manchester City respectively, deals that generated over £70 million combined — money that now gives Wolves significant room to manoeuvre in the market.

And it appears the Fer Lopez deal is just the beginning. Romano confirmed that Wolves’ recruitment team are actively working behind the scenes, although no further signings are currently imminent.

“They’re exploring the market at the moment, there is nothing imminent, but Wolves are working on several targets behind the scenes,” he added.

Wolves have made a habit in recent seasons of reshaping their squad while maintaining Premier League survival. The sales of Ruben Neves, Pedro Neto, Max Kilman, and Matheus Nunes in previous windows highlight a pragmatic approach to squad turnover, allowing the club to reinvest wisely and stay competitive.

Under Pereira, who is beginning to mould the squad to his tactical philosophy, there is a renewed emphasis on mobility, technique and youth — attributes Lopez fits perfectly. His arrival is expected to be a key piece in a revamped midfield following the departures of key creative figures.

Lopez may not arrive with the fanfare of a marquee signing, but the club sees him as a project player with the potential to become a mainstay in the Premier League. With the window still open and funds available, Wolves supporters can expect further reinforcements as Pereira looks to stamp his identity on a new-look side.
