    Leeds United’s Dream Squad for Manchester United Friendly Takes Shape Amid Transfer Buzz

    Leeds United are back in action for the first time since securing the Championship title in May, as they prepare to face Manchester United in a high-profile pre-season friendly this Saturday in Sweden.

    Daniel Farke’s men have returned to full training, with new signings Lukas Nmecha, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Jaka Bijol and Gabriel Gudmundsson joining the squad for their pre-season preparations. This clash with Premier League opposition will be the first of three summer fixtures, followed by games against Villarreal (August 2) and AC Milan (August 9), ahead of their Premier League opener against Everton.

    The squad that faces Erik ten Hag’s side will offer fans a first glimpse of Leeds’ top-flight credentials and the effectiveness of the summer recruitment. Although there’s optimism following promotion, Leeds are looking to avoid the fate of recent Championship winners like Leicester City and Southampton, who were immediately relegated.

    The club continues to pursue key targets in the transfer market, with the goalkeeper position a priority. Illan Meslier’s inconsistent form has prompted Leeds to explore alternatives. Among the names linked are Senne Lammens, Dominik Livakovic, Yahia Fofana and Lucas Perri. The latter, currently at Lyon, is seen as a viable option given the French club’s financial troubles.

    In defence, Leeds are expected to rotate heavily, with Bijol, Bornauw, Joe Rodon, Jayden Bogle and Gudmundsson all vying for minutes. Isaac Schmidt, Pascal Struijk and Ethan Ampadu also remain key options in a backline that offers Farke considerable flexibility.

    Midfield reinforcements are progressing well. Anton Stach of Hoffenheim is edging closer to a move, with Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg revealing: “Personal terms have been agreed with the 26-year-old.” However, the German side are reportedly holding out for €20m (£17.3m) plus add-ons, with negotiations ongoing.

    Sean Longstaff is another key target, with Leeds agreeing a £12m fee plus £3m in add-ons with Newcastle United. The player has reportedly agreed personal terms, and a move could be finalised soon. Longstaff, who saw limited game time under Eddie Howe last season, would provide vital Premier League experience. Youth talents like Charlie Crew (19) and Darko Gyabi (21) could also feature throughout the pre-season tour.

    Up front, Daniel James, Wilfried Gnonto, Joel Piroe, Nmecha and Largie Ramazani are all expected to play in Sweden, while Joe Gelhardt and Harry Gray may get minutes. Leeds are still considering signing a centre-forward, with free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin reportedly on their radar. The 28-year-old has pedigree but his injury record remains a concern.

    With more deals potentially on the horizon, Farke could yet see his dream squad fully realised ahead of their Premier League return. This Saturday’s showdown with Manchester United offers an early litmus test—and a chance to showcase the new-look Leeds to a global audience.
