Leeds United’s pursuit of a new striker has seen them zero in on Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz, but with the Brazilian’s price tag proving problematic, the club would be wise to pivot — and Ajax forward Brian Brobbey presents an ideal, cost-effective alternative.
The Whites have so far prioritised defensive additions this summer, but without a proven Premier League-quality striker, their hopes of consolidating top-flight status remain uncertain. Muniz has emerged as their primary attacking target, yet Fulham’s reported £50 million valuation is a significant stumbling block, even if a final fee would likely come in below that figure.
Having already seen an initial £32 million package turned down, Leeds are reportedly preparing a second bid. However, Fulham appear to be preparing for life after Muniz, indicating they’re not opposed to a sale — but the Cottagers are driving a hard bargain.
It’s no surprise then that Leeds are considering alternatives. Ajax’s Brian Brobbey, a 23-year-old Dutch international, fits the profile perfectly. Strong, mobile, and dangerous in front of goal, Brobbey’s style could offer Leeds exactly what they need at the tip of their attack.
After a disappointing stint at RB Leipzig, Brobbey returned to Ajax and matured significantly. While his 2024/25 season was underwhelming with just seven goals, his overall record in Amsterdam remains impressive: 144 appearances, 50 goals, and 20 assists. Despite standing at 5’11”, his physicality and athleticism allow him to bully defenders and make clever runs in behind — traits Leeds desperately need.
He may not carry the same immediate appeal as Muniz, but Brobbey’s pedigree and potential are undeniable. In fact, his form and profile previously attracted the interest of Manchester United during Erik ten Hag’s tenure. As reported by Fabrizio Romano via GiveMeSport:
“Nothing is imminent for [Joshua] Zirkzee. It’s different for Brobbey because he’s a player ten Hag knows very well. So, he’s one of the names they discussed internally in the last couple of months. Also, last summer, he was one of the names they mentioned.”
Though a move to Old Trafford never materialised, Leeds now have a chance to bring Brobbey to England — potentially for a fraction of the cost of Muniz — while freeing up vital funds for other areas of the squad.
In terms of technical skill, Brobbey is comfortable finishing off either foot and possesses decent link-up and dribbling ability. His presence up front could provide the platform Leeds need to launch and sustain attacks — something they lacked in key moments last season. A scouting report from Breaking the Lines even labelled Brobbey as “lethal” in front of goal.
For a side trying to maximise limited resources, Brobbey offers tremendous value. He’s Premier League-ready in terms of physicality, and with the right backing, could flourish in a team built around his strengths.
While Muniz remains a high-profile target, the smart money may lie in taking a calculated gamble on Brobbey — a player with unfinished business in Europe’s elite leagues and the attributes to thrive at Elland Road.
