Deal 80% Done! Everton Close in on Shocking Move for Juventus Star Douglas Luiz

Everton Open Talks With Juventus Over Douglas Luiz Loan Move

Everton have stepped up their pursuit of Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz after weeks of monitoring the Brazilian international, according to reports in Italy.

The Toffees are keen to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new Premier League campaign and have identified Luiz as a primary target. Italian outlet Calciomercato reports that Everton have now made formal contact with Juventus, proposing a loan deal with an option to buy the player permanently.

The Merseyside club’s approach is understood to be part of a cautious strategy as they assess Luiz’s fit within Sean Dyche’s system. Everton’s offer would see Luiz arrive at Goodison Park on an initial loan, with the club retaining the option to make the move permanent depending on his performances.

However, Juventus are reportedly reluctant to agree to a temporary deal and are instead pushing for a full sale. The Bianconeri are aiming to cash in on Luiz this summer, with an asking price set at around €40 million (£33.8 million). The Turin-based club view Luiz as a key asset who could generate significant funds to help with their own summer transfer plans.

Luiz, 26, only joined Juventus earlier this summer in a high-profile move from Aston Villa, as part of a complex swap deal that saw Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea head to the Premier League side. Despite the transfer, Juventus are now open to moving the player on again, particularly if a suitable permanent offer arrives.

Everton face stiff competition for Luiz’s signature, with a number of Premier League clubs also showing interest. Newcastle United, Fulham and Crystal Palace have all been linked with the former Manchester City midfielder. Manchester United were also keen in the January window, but failed to finalise a move at the time.

Everton’s pursuit of Luiz comes amid a busy summer for the club’s recruitment team. The Toffees are looking to strengthen several areas of the pitch, with midfield a particular area of focus. Luiz’s Premier League experience and technical quality make him an attractive option for Dyche as he looks to rebuild the side following another turbulent campaign.

No official bid has yet been lodged, but discussions between Everton and Juventus are ongoing. The Toffees are hopeful that their loan-to-buy proposal may still be considered if other suitors fail to meet Juventus’ full valuation.

Luiz made 35 appearances for Aston Villa in the Premier League last season, playing a key role in their successful push for Champions League qualification. His performances earned praise for their consistency, ball progression and defensive contributions.

With the player already attracting interest across Europe, Everton will need to act swiftly if they are to beat their rivals to a deal.
