Cheryl has stepped away from the spotlight once again, following an emotional and turbulent year marked by personal tragedy and disturbing security threats. Friends close to the pop icon say the 42-year-old singer is now leading an increasingly reclusive life, choosing to focus on motherhood and healing rather than public appearances or career ambitions.

After making a triumphant return to the stage with the Girls Aloud reunion tour last year, fans hoped it signalled a long-awaited comeback. However, the tragic death of her former partner, Liam Payne, in October, changed everything. The singer and former One Direction star died at age 31 after a fall from his hotel room in Buenos Aires. Since then, Cheryl has prioritised the well-being of their seven-year-old son, Bear, retreating from public life.

“She had a lot planned after the Girls Aloud tour,” a source tells heat, “but she doesn’t feel ready for anything right now.”

Adding to Cheryl’s distress was a stalking ordeal involving convicted killer Daniel Bannister, who repeatedly breached a restraining order by turning up at properties linked to the star. Most recently, he admitted violating the order again by appearing at a home in Buckinghamshire. Bannister is currently in custody, awaiting sentencing.

The court heard that Cheryl felt “violated and terrified,” especially with her young son in the home. Friends say the incidents have had a lasting effect on her sense of safety. “Cheryl has always been a bit of a homebody, but her pals have been worried she’s more of a hermit these days as she rarely leaves the house,” says the source. “Her recent stalker scare hasn’t helped, but it’s more about being a devoted mum to Bear and figuring out their new normal without Liam.”

Despite the sadness, Cheryl is said to be finding comfort in her inner circle and quiet routines. “When she’s not looking after Bear, Cheryl likes having her friends round for lunches and dinners and working out at home,” the insider adds. “She’s got a room that doubles as a dance studio, where she can blast music and let her frustration out. Cheryl has joked to her friends that she knows she’s become boring, but they’re all very supportive.”

While she has not ruled out a return to work, Cheryl is said to be cautious about re-entering the public eye. “She knows working would be healthy, but it’s finding the right project,” says the source. “She’s also not sure she has the energy to put herself out there – she can’t handle trolls right now.”

Her last public appearance was in March, when she was spotted having dinner with her mum and a friend – the first time she had been seen since Liam’s funeral.

For now, Cheryl remains focused on providing stability and protection for Bear, who is reportedly set to inherit Liam’s estate. According to sources, the singer is committed to keeping life as peaceful and private as possible for their son.
