With the dust still settling on a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, the countdown to a new era at Ibrox is already underway. Russell Martin’s first pre-season as Rangers head coach is just around the corner, with the club finalising plans for a rigorous summer schedule ahead of their UEFA Champions League qualifiers and Scottish Premiership opener.

The players will report back to the club’s Auchenhowie training base on Monday, June 23, as confirmed by midfielder Nicolas Raskin. Speaking after the season-ending draw with Hibs, he said: “We’re coming back on the 23rd of June, so it’s not that far away. We need to plan the pre-season, so yeah, it’s always better. We all know the situation. We’ve seen some people coming into the building, but we’ve not really had any talks. So we’re just waiting to see how we’re going to go.”

Martin will have nearly a full month with his squad before competitive action begins, and the new boss will use that period to instil his tactical philosophy and assess both his senior players and emerging talents.

A major part of Rangers’ preparations will take place at St George’s Park, the FA’s national football centre, with an intensive training camp beginning Monday, July 7. Martin is expected to cast a close eye over several academy graduates as well as recent arrival Lyall Cameron, who will be among those reporting for duty alongside experienced figures such as James Tavernier and Jack Butland.

Reports also suggest a possible second training stint in Peralada, a Catalonian village in France, although this has yet to be officially confirmed.

Confirmed Pre-Season Fixtures

Rangers have announced three friendly fixtures so far, with a fourth expected to be confirmed shortly. The first will see Martin’s men take on Club Brugge at Ibrox Stadium on Sunday, July 6 (KO 2pm), with ticket prices set at £18 for adults, £10 concessions, and £5 for children.

The squad will then travel to face Middlesbrough on Saturday, July 26 (KO 2pm), in what is likely to be one of the final tests before the competitive season begins. Tickets for that fixture are priced at £20 for adults.

In between, a Rangers XI — predominantly composed of B-team players — will face Hartlepool United at The Prestige Group Stadium on Sunday, July 20 (KO 3pm), with coach David McCallum leading the side. Tickets are priced at £12 adults, £7 concessions.

A fourth friendly against Toulouse is expected to take place on Friday, July 18 at Stade Saint-Michel, home of French fifth-tier side Canet Roussillon. A 6pm kick-off is anticipated, though official confirmation is still pending.

International Duty and Champions League Outlook

Eight players are currently on international duty, including John Souttar and Connor Barron with Scotland, Cyriel Dessers with Nigeria, and Hamza Igamane representing Morocco. They will return later in the summer, depending on their respective commitments.

Rangers enter the Champions League second qualifying round as a seeded team, with potential opponents including Panathinaikos, Servette, or SK Brann. The draw takes place on Wednesday, June 18, with the two-legged ties scheduled for July 22/23 and July 29/30.

With domestic fixtures set to be released on June 20, and the Premiership season kicking off on August 2/3, the coming weeks promise to be a crucial foundation for what Rangers hope will be a much-improved campaign.
