Marcus Rashford Offered Shock Exit Route as Manchester United Begin Summer Overhaul

Manchester United’s rebuild under Ruben Amorim is gathering pace – and Marcus Rashford could be one of the highest-profile casualties, with Newcastle United reportedly preparing an audacious bid to offer the England forward a route out of Old Trafford.

The Red Devils endured a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, finishing a dismal 15th in the Premier League and missing out on European football. Amorim, brought in to revitalise the club’s fortunes, has already begun making sweeping changes to reshape the squad in his own image.

United confirmed the departures of Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen following the expiration of their contracts. Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton is expected to stay on, but the club’s outgoing list is likely far from complete.

Having secured the signing of Brazil international Matheus Cunha, Amorim’s focus has now turned to trimming the wage bill and generating funds to support further incomings. The lack of European football this season means United must be more calculated in their recruitment – and more ruthless with their sales.

Among those expected to leave are Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony – all of whom finished the season away from the first team picture. While Real Betis are hopeful of making Antony’s loan permanent, the situation around Sancho remains unclear, with Chelsea reportedly cooling their interest.

The most eye-catching development, however, surrounds Rashford. After a disappointing season that saw him fall down the pecking order and lose the trust of both fans and coaches, Newcastle United are now weighing up a move. The Magpies, themselves building for another campaign of European ambition, believe they could reignite Rashford’s career and offer him Champions League football.

Reports suggest early discussions have taken place between intermediaries, but any deal would likely hinge on United’s asking price and Rashford’s willingness to leave the club he’s been with since the age of seven.

“If Amorim wants to further strengthen his squad without the financial benefit of European football, he may well need to sanction further sales,” the article noted. And Rashford – once considered untouchable – may now fall into that category.

Elsewhere, Rasmus Hojlund had attracted early summer interest from Serie A clubs, but those links have quietened, with Amorim expected to persevere with the £70m striker as a long-term project. Alejandro Garnacho is another name who could command a significant fee, but there’s no indication yet that United are ready to let the Argentine leave.

As Amorim plots his next moves, Mirror Football reports that Manchester United are in active talks with multiple targets to bolster midfield and defensive options. The new boss is determined to streamline a bloated squad and ensure only those fully committed to his vision remain.

With the window still in its early stages, further departures are expected, and fans should brace for more surprises – including the possible farewell of a player once tipped to be the future face of the club.
