Godwin ObajeIgor Paixao Price Tag Revealed as Leeds United Weigh Up Forward and Goalkeeper Moves
Leeds United remain active in the summer transfer window following their return to the Premier League, with continued interest in Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao and Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri. Having already bolstered their squad with several key additions, the Whites are now exploring further reinforcements to strengthen Daniel Farke’s squad.
After securing striker Lukas Nmecha on a free from Wolfsburg, alongside centre-back Jaka Bijol from Udinese for around £15 million, and full-back Gabriel Gudmundsson for £10 million from Lille, Leeds are believed to be considering a move for Paixao. The 24-year-old forward, who helped Feyenoord to success in the Eredivisie, has emerged as a priority target—though his price tag is proving to be a sticking point.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Leeds have already made their assessment and view Paixao as a player who can make an immediate impact.
“Leeds United fully approved Igor Paixão, viewing him as able to make immediate impact,” Tavolieri said on X.
However, a reported €30 million (£26m) price tag, including bonuses, is causing some hesitation from the club’s hierarchy. Feyenoord are said to have already turned down a bid from Marseille, and Leeds are internally discussing whether the fee is justifiable for a player yet to prove himself in a top European league.
LeedsLive acknowledged the risk but pointed to previous successful gambles:
“It’s perhaps understandable that the Whites would be reluctant to pay a hefty price tag for someone with no top flight experience, though Raphinha – to name one – is a clear example of how those sorts of transfers can pay off. If they can negotiate a much cheaper price, Paixão may be worth a punt.”
In a parallel move, Leeds are also weighing up a change between the sticks, with Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri identified as a potential replacement for Illan Meslier. The 26-year-old Lyon shot-stopper played nearly every Ligue 1 match last season and appears to have passed the early fitness evaluations.
Injury analyst Dr Rajpal Brar told MOT Leeds News that Perri is in excellent condition and should adapt quickly to the physical demands of English football.
“He played all but one league game last season and did not suffer any injuries. He should clear his medical without any problem. The adaptation for a keeper is slightly different from an outfielder, but he’ll quickly get used to the physical and intense nature of the Premier League.”
LeedsLive added:
“The Whites need a new goalkeeper, and Perri could be a smart addition if they acquire him for a modest fee. Having previously been called up to the Brazil squad in 2023, he certainly has some pedigree.”
With the transfer window still open and Leeds pushing to finalise their Premier League preparations, eyes will remain on Elland Road to see whether Paixao and Perri become the next names through the door.
