Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has told South Korean forward Hwang Hee-chan that it may be time to move on, as the club undergoes significant changes behind the scenes and on the pitch.

The £14 million signing from RB Leipzig, once a fan favourite at Molineux, now finds himself at a career crossroads after Pereira offered a frank assessment of the forward’s future under his regime. Speaking to local media, the Portuguese manager made his stance clear.

“We’ve had an honest conversation. I told Hwang it’s better for him to go if he wants to play regularly. We can’t guarantee him that here,” Pereira said.

That blunt ultimatum marks the latest sign of a major squad overhaul taking place at Wolves this summer, with the club undergoing structural changes off the pitch too. Sporting director Matt Hobbs has stepped down, and Italian football executive Domenico Teti is expected to arrive as technical director in a redefined recruitment role.

Teti’s arrival signals a new phase for Wolves, who are aiming to streamline their sporting operations following a turbulent campaign. With Pereira given the green light to reshape the squad, a number of players are now being made available for transfer – and Hwang appears to be high on that list.

The 28-year-old forward endured a frustrating 2024/25 campaign, plagued by inconsistency and fitness concerns. Though capable of moments of brilliance, Hwang struggled to cement a regular starting role under successive managers, and Pereira’s arrival has not improved his prospects.

Hwang’s contract runs until 2026, but Wolves are now open to offers as they look to trim the wage bill and inject fresh energy into the side. The club are targeting a more athletic, pressing style under Pereira, and the South Korean’s profile may no longer align with those demands.

His potential departure has sparked early interest from clubs in Germany and Turkey, with at least two Bundesliga sides reportedly monitoring the situation. Wolves would likely be willing to listen to offers in the region of £10–12 million, accepting a slight loss on the original fee paid to Leipzig in 2022.

Meanwhile, Pereira and Teti are working in tandem to bring in new signings who fit the club’s evolving identity. Wolves are expected to focus on younger players with resale potential, especially from continental markets where Teti has longstanding scouting networks.

The club’s owners remain supportive of Pereira’s vision, but with financial discipline still a key priority at Molineux, significant outgoings will be required before major spending can take place.

Hwang’s exit now appears a matter of when, not if. And as Pereira plots a new era in the West Midlands, it’s clear that sentimentality will play little role in his decisions.
