Wolves Poised to Make Move for Rangers Midfielder Nicolas Raskin

Wolves are preparing to step up their long-term pursuit of Nicolas Raskin, with the Premier League club closely monitoring the midfielder’s situation at Rangers as the summer transfer window begins to take shape.

The 24-year-old Belgian international has been on Wolves’ radar for over 18 months, and despite a recent overhaul of the club’s management structure, sources have confirmed that interest in the former Standard Liège man remains strong.

Raskin’s name was originally put forward under the regime of former sporting director Matt Hobbs, who identified him as a player capable of thriving in English football. And although Hobbs has since departed, new technical director Domenico Teti and director of player recruitment and development Matt Jackson — promoted from within — are said to be aligned in the belief that Raskin is ready for the step up.

Jackson, a former Everton defender, is understood to have backed the club’s continued interest in the midfielder. It is believed that he, like Hobbs before him, sees Raskin as a Premier League-ready talent and a player with both upside and tactical maturity to suit Wolves’ evolving style of play.

Raskin has just two years remaining on his current deal at Ibrox and is viewed internally as a key figure in new manager Russell Martin’s rebuild. The 39-year-old, who succeeded Philippe Clement earlier this summer, has reportedly told the board that the Belgian should be retained as part of his first-team core.

However, Rangers could face a dilemma. With Raskin yet to commit to an extension, sporting director Kevin Thelwell is said to be working on a substantial new contract offer aimed at tying him down long-term. But should the midfielder opt not to sign fresh terms, the Ibrox hierarchy may be forced to consider cashing in rather than risk losing a valuable asset for a reduced fee down the line.

Interest in Raskin is by no means limited to Wolves. Aston Villa are also monitoring the situation, while continental clubs including Porto, Marseille and Fiorentina have all reportedly been tracking the Belgian’s progress — particularly since his debut for the national team late last season.

Despite that, Wolves appear to be in pole position. Sources close to the player confirm he has been aware of their interest since January 2024 and is open to a move to the English top flight. He is said to regard the Premier League as the natural next step in his career trajectory.

Raskin’s performances since arriving in Glasgow have made him a fan favourite. His mix of aggression and technical poise has given Rangers bite in midfield, and he was instrumental during key periods of the previous campaign. His recent elevation to the Belgian senior squad has only added to his appeal in the transfer market.

As the summer unfolds, Wolves are expected to test Rangers’ resolve — particularly if contract negotiations fail to reach a breakthrough. With suitors lining up and the player believed to be ready for a new challenge, the ball may soon be in Rangers’ court.
