Leeds United are exploring the possibility of signing Getafe forward Christantus Uche, with a £21.5million release clause reportedly enough to seal a deal for the highly rated Nigerian international.
According to The Athletic (18 July), Leeds made contact with Getafe over Uche several weeks ago and have continued to monitor his situation. While no formal negotiations are believed to be underway, he remains firmly on the radar as the Whites look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the Premier League season.
“Leeds United asked Getafe about Christantus Uche a few weeks ago. €25m release clause. Not advanced, but one they have checked on,” journalist Beren Cross confirmed via X.
The 23-year-old forward enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in La Liga last season, drawing attention for his pace, directness, and ability to stretch defences. His form has made him an attractive option for a number of European clubs, but Leeds are believed to be among the most serious contenders.
Manager Daniel Farke is intent on building a squad with sufficient depth and quality to compete in the Premier League following the club’s promotion. While the attack already features proven threats in Joel Piroe and Daniel James, the departure of Manor Solomon back to Tottenham has created a gap in the squad. Solomon played a key role in the club’s Championship success, directly contributing to 22 goals across the campaign.
With the return to the top flight demanding greater intensity and tactical flexibility, Leeds are expected to continue their recruitment drive across several areas of the pitch. Christantus Uche is seen as a player who could add pace, flair, and a goal threat—something the side will need in abundance to thrive in the Premier League.
Recent weeks have seen a renewed sense of urgency in the Elland Road boardroom. The signings of Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw, and Lukas Nmecha provided a strong foundation early in the window. Since then, Swedish left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson has joined from Lille, adding defensive versatility, while Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff is on the verge of completing a permanent move after the clubs agreed on a fee. Talks are also progressing over the signing of Hoffenheim midfielder Anton Stach.
Elsewhere, Leeds have moved to shut down speculation regarding young striker Mateo Joseph. The club reportedly rejected a loan offer from Real Betis that included an option to buy, underlining their commitment to the 20-year-old’s future at Elland Road.
“Betis loan offer, with option, for Mateo Joseph has been rejected. Leeds insist he’s not for sale,” added Cross.
The club’s transfer activity suggests further additions are likely, especially in attacking positions. Whether Uche becomes the next new arrival remains to be seen, but with a clear path to activating his release clause, Leeds are in a strong position should they choose to act.
