Leeds United Open Talks with Tottenham Target Igor Paixão as Transfer Race Heats Up
Leeds United have made the first formal move to sign highly-rated Feyenoord winger Igor Paixão, a player who has been monitored closely by Tottenham Hotspur throughout the summer.
Paixão, 25, enjoyed a standout campaign with the Dutch giants last season, racking up an impressive 37 goal contributions — 18 goals and 19 assists — across all competitions. His exploits in the Champions League drew widespread attention, particularly his electrifying performance against AC Milan in which he dismantled England international Kyle Walker.
Though Tottenham had reportedly been one of four clubs tracking the Brazilian before the transfer window opened, it now appears Leeds United have stolen a march on their Premier League rivals. The Whites have presented their project to Paixão’s camp and are now awaiting a response from the player, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth.
Taking to social media, Smyth revealed:
“Feyenoord’s Brazilian winger Igor Paixão is one of the left wingers whose representatives Leeds United have spoken to about a possible transfer move. Understand they presented the project to his camp this week. He’s reportedly also a target for Marseille.”

The Brazilian’s versatility across the front line, combined with his technical skill and attacking output, makes him an attractive proposition for clubs across Europe. Ligue 1 outfit Marseille have also expressed concrete interest in the player, which could further complicate Leeds’ efforts to secure his signature.
Leeds boss Daniel Farke is keen to reinforce his attacking options ahead of the new Championship season, with promotion firmly on the club’s agenda. Paixão, with his top-level experience and ability to operate both as a traditional winger and an inside forward, fits the mould of the dynamic, forward-thinking player Farke is looking to add to his squad.
Meanwhile, Tottenham’s summer business has already seen the arrivals of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United and the permanent signing of Mathys Tel, signalling their intent to refresh their attacking department. However, despite those additions, Spurs remain in the market for another forward, as well as a defensive midfielder and a centre-back.
Reports suggest that a deal for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White is progressing, after which Spurs are expected to turn their attention to a top-class number six. Additionally, Brentford forward Yoane Wissa is said to be another name on the North London club’s radar, though competition for the Congo international is likely to be stiff.
As things stand, Leeds appear to be in pole position to land Paixão — but with Marseille circling and Tottenham still in the market, the race for his signature is far from over.
