Leeds United Poised for Fourth Bid as Sean Longstaff Saga Nears Conclusion

Leeds United are preparing to submit a fourth offer for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, as the Championship club intensifies efforts to bolster its squad ahead of the new season.

The Whites have already enjoyed a productive transfer window, with four signings—Lukas Nmecha, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Gabriel Gudmundsson, and Jaka Bijol—completed with minimal fuss. The swift nature of these deals has been attributed to Leeds’ pragmatic transfer strategy, which focuses on targeting players eager to join the project at Elland Road.

However, their pursuit of Longstaff has proved more complicated. The club’s third offer for the 26-year-old, understood to be worth £10 million plus £2 million in add-ons, was rejected by Newcastle. Despite the setback, sources close to the negotiations suggest another bid is imminent.

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey confirmed the situation remains fluid:
“I think they will [bid again],” he told Leeds United News.
“Leeds are threatening to go elsewhere. I don’t think a deal is a million miles away. It makes sense with a deal so close, we aren’t talking £5m–£10m away. It’s ongoing, that one.”

Newcastle are reportedly open to a sale, but only at their valuation—believed to be around £15 million. With Longstaff already giving the green light to personal terms, the only remaining obstacle appears to be the fee.

The midfielder, who has spent his entire senior career at St. James’ Park, is understood to be keen on a move in order to secure regular first-team football and ensure Newcastle receive a transfer fee before his contract expires next year.

From Leeds’ perspective, Longstaff is an attractive option due to his Premier League pedigree and physical style of play, which aligns well with manager Daniel Farke’s vision. The 26-year-old has been a consistent performer in the top flight and brings vital experience to a squad seeking promotion at the first time of asking.

With over £30 million already spent this summer, Leeds remain committed to smart, efficient spending—evidenced by their decision to walk away from other deals when prices exceeded value. A prime example was the failed move for Habib Diarra, who eventually joined Sunderland after Leeds refused to meet Strasbourg’s asking price.
