Lucumí’s potential signing could have immediate consequences for long-serving defender Luke O’Nien, who has racked up over 300 appearances for Sunderland.

In comparison, Sunderland allowed 44 goals in the Championship with O’Nien at the heart of defence, where his pass accuracy averaged 87%.

Physically, Lucumí also holds his own—winning 12 duels against Juventus in a standout May performance.
