Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of seasoned Premier League star Ashley Young, who now becomes the oldest player ever to join the club.
The 40-year-old has penned a one-year contract, bringing a wealth of top-flight experience from his time at clubs such as Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Everton.
Capable of playing as a winger or full-back, Young has racked up 750 club appearances and scored 88 goals over the course of his career.
His honours include a Premier League title, FA Cup, and Europa League win during his stint at Old Trafford, as well as a Serie A title with Inter Milan in the 2020/21 season.
Young spent the last two campaigns with Everton, making 32 Premier League appearances in the 2024/25 season—mostly at right-back.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna told the club’s website:
“Ashley has had a brilliant career and his track record speaks volumes.
He’s maintained an incredibly high standard of professionalism and performance throughout, and he’s still playing at a high level.
We believe his leadership and experience will be a huge asset to the squad this season, and he’s eager to contribute both on and off the field.
It’s a great signing for us as a group and as a club.”
Young, who was in attendance as his son Tyler played for Ipswich U21s as a trialist in a friendly at Needham Market last night, becomes the Blues’ fourth signing of the summer.
Other arrivals at Portman Road include:
- Goalkeeper David Button (free transfer from Reading)
- Defender Cedric Kipre (loan from Reims)
- Midfielder Azor Matusiwa (signed from Rennes for £7.8 million)
Ipswich are set to continue their preseason with a friendly away at Aberdeen on Friday evening (kick-off 7:30pm).
