Everton Make Contact Over Rangers Star Igamane Amid Drogba Comparison

Everton have rekindled their interest in Rangers striker Hamza Igamane, with fresh reports confirming that the Merseyside club have now made official contact over a potential summer move for the Moroccan international.

The Toffees, who have already bolstered their attacking ranks with the arrival of Thierno Barry from Villarreal, remain active in the transfer market as manager David Moyes looks to reinforce his frontline following the departures of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja.

Igamane, 22, was a target for Everton during the January window, but their pursuit was derailed by Rangers’ then-£25 million asking price. However, according to respected journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Everton have returned to the table, submitting an enquiry for the striker, with Rangers now believed to value him closer to £15 million.

The Moroccan enjoyed an impressive debut season at Ibrox, scoring 16 goals and providing three assists across all competitions — including four goals in the Europa League — and his physical style has earned him high praise within the squad.

Leon Balogun, Igamane’s teammate at Rangers, drew a lofty comparison between the forward and Premier League icon Didier Drogba. Speaking earlier this year, Balogun said:
“Hamza’s had an excellent run, he’s a strong player. I don’t want to praise him too much, but the way he controls the ball reminds me a little bit of Didier Drogba.”

It’s a bold comparison, but not one without merit. Igamane is a powerful and athletic presence up front, adept at holding off defenders and creating space for others — qualities that would likely translate well to the Premier League’s physical demands.

Everton’s move comes amid uncertainty over Igamane’s future, with French side Lille reportedly in pole position until recently. Negotiations with the Ligue 1 club have now stalled, leaving the door open for other suitors. Feyenoord and Udinese have also shown interest, with Everton keen to pounce and hijack the deal.

Tavolieri noted on social media:
“LOSC struggling in their negotiations with Rangers FC for Hamza Igamane. Despite a personal agreement with the Moroccan, the deal’s still on hold. In the meantime, Feyenoord entered the race. Everton and Udinese have also made enquiries. One to watch.”

With Moyes keen on adding one more striker, Igamane could form part of a potentially formidable attacking unit at Goodison Park, joining the likes of Barry, Beto, and possibly Youssef Chermiti — should the young Portuguese forward remain at the club.

For Everton, landing Igamane would represent not just a smart piece of business, but also a statement of intent. The Moroccan’s blend of youth, strength and raw ability could provide the Toffees with the kind of focal point up front that’s been missing in recent seasons.

As things stand, Rangers are holding firm on their valuation, but Everton’s renewed approach suggests the interest is serious — and this could yet be one of the more intriguing deals of the window.
