Millwall Send Clear Transfer Message to Premier League Suitors as Tanganga and Ivanovic Attract Interest

Millwall manager Alex Neil has issued a firm stance amid growing Premier League interest in two of his most sought-after players, Japhet Tanganga and Mihailo Ivanovic, insisting the club has no intention of letting key players leave on the cheap.

Both Tanganga and Ivanovic have been at the heart of recent transfer speculation, with the likes of Crystal Palace, Everton, Leeds United and Wolves circling. Despite the interest, Neil made it clear the club remains focused on strengthening, not dismantling, their squad.

The Lions boss addressed the transfer noise directly in an interview with Southwark News, saying:

“I know there’s a lot of speculation, as there always is, whether it be with Japhet or whether it be with Mihailo or whether it be with anybody else.”

He continued:

“We are not actively looking to try and sell anyone. We want to try and retain the squad, and we want to try and grow and build and be good this season.”

The comments come amid reports that Tanganga has a £1.2 million release clause in his current contract. However, Neil implied the club still holds a degree of control over the situation, suggesting they won’t be easily pushed into accepting cut-price deals.

“Equally, if somebody comes in with offers that are way beyond what we would maybe have as an evaluation of a player, then certain decisions may well get made,” Neil admitted. “What I will tell you is we have no ambitions or certainly no effort is going into trying to move any of our players.”

Former Tottenham defender Tanganga impressed last season after arriving at The Den, anchoring Millwall’s backline with consistency and contributing important goals. The 25-year-old’s top-flight experience has reportedly piqued the interest of multiple clubs in England and across Europe, with sources suggesting he may even prefer a move abroad.

Meanwhile, Ivanovic – signed just last summer for £2.8 million – has made an instant impact. The 20-year-old Serbian striker notched 14 goals across all competitions in his debut Championship season and has already been handed the club’s coveted number nine shirt ahead of the new campaign.

That form has not gone unnoticed, with Everton and Wolves monitoring his development closely. Serie A side Lazio have also been credited with interest in the young forward, but Millwall’s move to promote him signals their intent to build around the emerging star.

Neil’s comments underline a growing ambition at the South London club. Far from being a feeder team for the Premier League, Millwall appear determined to hold onto their key talent unless significant offers come their way.

“We like them. We think they’ve got real growth in terms of them individually, but also us as a team. And we want to try and make sure this year is a good year for us,” Neil concluded.

As the summer transfer window intensifies, it’s clear Millwall are playing hardball – and rightly so.
