Everton’s summer rebuild has officially begun with the signing of Villarreal striker Thierno Barry — a positive first move under the club’s new owners, The Friedkin Group. However, manager David Moyes is under no illusions: more quality is urgently required if the Toffees are to climb the Premier League table.
Moyes has publicly stated his intention to add up to six more players to the squad, and with the transfer window now in full swing, the pressure is on the Everton hierarchy to deliver. While Barry’s arrival has generated cautious optimism, an even bigger statement could be made if Everton were to pull off a move for Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard.
The Belgian international has long been admired by Moyes, who previously tried to sign him during his time at West Ham. Now, with Trossard reportedly available for a modest £20 million — as Arsenal prepare to sign Viktor Gyökeres — the door may finally be open for Everton to make their move.
It’s an audacious target, but not an impossible one. Trossard, 30, is approaching the final phase of his career and may favour guaranteed minutes over rotation at a Champions League club. With Bayern Munich among the interested parties, Everton would need to act decisively, offering him the chance to become the face of a new era at Bramley-Moore Dock.
The Guardian has valued Trossard at just £20 million this summer — a figure well within Everton’s reported £100 million transfer budget. Such a fee would be a relative bargain for a player with proven Premier League pedigree, technical brilliance, and big-game experience.
Everton fans will know all too well what Trossard can offer. The versatile forward has tormented them in the past, most recently scoring against the Toffees for Arsenal in a ruthless counter-attacking move.
His current manager, former Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta, recently showered Trossard with praise:
“Trossard, great player. He’s a little magician.
He can score on any surface, and he’s a big threat; so composed, so cool, he can play in different positions. It’s just a joy to have him in the team.”
While Arsenal may be willing to part ways with Trossard for financial and squad-building reasons, it is clear his quality remains valued at the highest level. Everton, still rebuilding after a difficult few seasons, would benefit immensely from his experience and creativity.
The club is also exploring the option of bringing back Jack Harrison — but a move for Trossard would represent a significant upgrade in attacking quality. With the Friedkin Group promising a bold new vision, signing a player of Trossard’s calibre would send a clear message to fans and rivals alike.
