Leeds United’s transfer activity is far from over as the club continues to reinforce its squad ahead of their Premier League return. After spending £30million this summer on new arrivals including Gabriel Gudmundsson, Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Felix Nmecha, attention has now turned to further strengthening in midfield.
According to reports, Hoffenheim have placed a £17.25million valuation on German midfielder Anton Stach. LeedsLive reports the Bundesliga side were initially reluctant to sell the 25-year-old but have since shifted their stance, now aiming to raise significant funds through his potential exit.
The Whites are not alone in their interest. Bundesliga rivals Eintracht Frankfurt are also said to be monitoring the situation, adding pressure on Leeds to make a decision.
LeedsLive commented: “£17.25m isn’t bad for a player as a Premier League team. However, it comes down to whether Leeds are needing reinforcements in midfield. Going into the top-flight, Farke will be desperate to ensure his team are physical and hard to beat. A controller like Stach could help Leeds edge it in certain games. It’s just whether the club feel they are getting a good deal.”
The midfield position is one area Leeds manager Daniel Farke appears intent on refining. With a demanding top-flight campaign ahead, depth and physical presence will be essential—qualities Stach is known to offer. Whether Leeds opt to meet Hoffenheim’s valuation remains to be seen, but the deal is clearly within financial reach if the club sees Stach as a pivotal figure.
Meanwhile, another familiar name has surfaced in Leeds’ transfer discussions—Josh Sargent. The Norwich City forward, who played under Farke during his tenure at Carrow Road, is reportedly on the German’s radar again. The 25-year-old American international is also attracting interest from Burnley, who are in need of an established striker to boost their attacking options.
The Canaries are said to be holding out for £20million, a significant fee for a player who, according to LeedsLive, hasn’t made a convincing case in English football’s top two tiers.
LeedsLive were blunt in their assessment: “Sargent isn’t better than Leeds’ current attackers. Nmecha offers great top-flight experience and Joel Piroe will be desperate to show what he can do in the Premier League. Sargent didn’t leave a lasting impression when he was last in the Premier League and he was hardly a stand-out player in the Championship last season. If Burnley want to go sign him, Leeds should stay away.”
With pre-season preparations well underway, Leeds’ recruitment drive is expected to continue over the coming weeks as Farke and the club’s hierarchy seek to add final pieces to their Premier League puzzle. The decision over whether to pursue Stach, and how serious their interest in Sargent really is, will likely unfold swiftly as the new season edges closer.
