Patrick Bamford Tipped for Leeds United Exit Amid Summer Shake-Up

As Leeds United gear up for the new season, the focus is shifting from recruitment to departures, with forward Patrick Bamford tipped as one of the first high-profile names to leave the club.

The 31-year-old striker, who is among the club’s top earners, faces an uncertain future at Elland Road. With pre-season preparations underway at Leeds Beckett University’s Carnegie School of Sport, the need to streamline the squad—both financially and tactically—is becoming increasingly clear.

So far, Leeds have only sanctioned one exit this summer, with Max Wöber joining Werder Bremen on loan, a deal that reportedly includes an option to buy. But that is expected to change soon, with several players’ futures under review.

Former Leeds goalkeeper and current pundit Paul Robinson has weighed in on the situation, suggesting that offloading certain players will be essential if the club are serious about building a competitive team for the upcoming Championship campaign.

“If a goalkeeper is brought in, I think Illan Meslier will move on. I think it’s needed for him as well. He needs a fresh start as well as Leeds need a fresh start,” Robinson said.

Robinson also mentioned Jack Harrison, who has returned from a loan spell at Everton. Despite being a £10 million signing, Harrison’s place in the squad remains uncertain.

“People forget about Jack Harrison. He’s come back from Everton but he obviously doesn’t fit with a manager. So I’m surprised that Everton haven’t made that move permanently,” he said. “Leeds paid £10 million for him. Whether they get the same type of money in return, I’m not sure.”

Bamford had been linked with a move to Wrexham earlier in the summer, with speculation that the ambitious, newly-promoted Championship side were eyeing the experienced striker. However, a club executive later dismissed the rumour in a radio interview.

Despite that denial, the sense remains that Bamford is nearing the end of his time at Leeds. With just 12 months left on his contract, there is growing pressure on the club to find a suitor before the window closes.

Sources close to the club suggest the striker may be content to see out the final year of his deal if no offer materialises. But for a side looking to reduce its wage bill and invest in fresh talent, retaining a high earner with limited prospects for game time is far from ideal.
