Rangers on Verge of Triple Transfer Coup as Russell Martin Sets Out Ibrox Ambitions

Rangers are wasting no time in reshaping their squad under new boss Russell Martin, with the Ibrox side now closing in on three more signings, including a move for former England striker Jamie Vardy.

The Scottish giants have already added Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez, and Lyall Cameron, the latter having joined on a pre-contract from Dundee. With a friendly against Club Brugge this weekend and Champions League qualifiers on the horizon, Martin’s recruitment drive shows no signs of slowing.

Record Sport reports that a deal for Luton Town’s Thelo Aasgaard is near completion, with the Norwegian talent set to sign a four-year contract. The fee is said to be a substantial upfront payment with performance-related bonuses still being finalised.

Meanwhile, defensive reinforcements are also in the pipeline. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Nasser Djiga is expected to arrive at Ibrox on loan after struggling for game time at Molineux. Djiga, who joined Wolves from Red Star Belgrade for £10 million, has barely featured under manager Vitor Pereira. Sky Sports claim a medical is imminent, describing talks as “close” to conclusion.

In another potential boost to Rangers’ back line, Conor Coady could be on the move as Leicester City look to cut their wage bill. The 32-year-old centre-back is reportedly surplus to requirements, with the Leicester Mercury suggesting the Foxes are keen to offload the experienced England international before his contract expires next summer.

Rangers sporting director Kevin Thelwell, who knows Coady well from his spells at Wolves and Everton, is said to be pushing hard to secure the move.

Up front, Martin’s interest in adding experience to his forward line has turned the spotlight on Jamie Vardy, who is now a free agent after leaving Leicester at the end of last season. The Daily Mail claim the 38-year-old, who famously fired Leicester to the Premier League title in 2016, is open to finishing his career in Glasgow.

With the futures of Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers uncertain, Rangers have multiple irons in the fire. Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Dor Turgeman remains on the radar, with Israeli outlet One reporting a £5.1 million asking price for the highly-rated striker.

In midfield, the club’s interest in Brazilian talent Metinho could be reignited after FC Basel struggled to agree a permanent deal for the 22-year-old following his successful loan spell in Switzerland. “They’re demanding something we don’t want to pay,” Basel’s sporting director Daniel Stucki told Sport. “A deal is parked, but he absolutely wants to stay and knows it would be good for him.”
