Rangers have reportedly been given a firm indication over the future of midfielder Nico Raskin amid mounting speculation that he could be the next high-profile name to depart Ibrox this summer.
The Belgian’s position at the club has been uncertain for weeks, and while Russell Martin begins to implement his vision in Glasgow, Raskin is now understood to be edging closer to the exit door.
The 23-year-old was one of Rangers’ standout performers in an otherwise disappointing 2024/25 campaign. Despite the team’s collective inconsistency, Raskin’s individual performances consistently stood out, with his blend of technical quality, work rate and aggression in midfield drawing praise from supporters and pundits alike.
A source close to the player has now told Football Insider that Rangers “have been given their answer” over the Belgian’s intentions, with Raskin keen on a new challenge away from Scottish football. While no destination has been confirmed, there is said to be interest from several clubs across France and Germany, with the possibility of a summer move growing increasingly likely.
The same source said: “Raskin has made it clear to those close to him that he feels this summer could be the right time to move on. He is ambitious and believes he can push himself to the next level, which may not be possible at Rangers right now.”
Raskin arrived at Ibrox from Standard Liège in January 2023 and has since developed into a key player in the heart of the Rangers midfield. His dynamic style and eye for a pass quickly endeared him to the Ibrox faithful, and his departure – if confirmed – would represent a significant loss for the club.
Russell Martin, who officially took charge earlier this month, is said to have been made aware of the player’s stance during early squad planning discussions. Though the new manager is understood to be a fan of Raskin’s qualities, he is also pragmatic about needing to reshape the squad in his own image.
Club sources indicate that Rangers are not expected to stand in Raskin’s way if a suitable offer arrives. The 49ers Enterprises, now overseeing football operations at Ibrox, are keen to ensure players who are not fully committed to the new project are moved on efficiently, both to fund new arrivals and to maintain a focused dressing room.
One insider added: “There’s a recognition within the club that Raskin has given a lot in his time here. But with only two years left on his deal, it makes sense to cash in now if he’s not going to extend.”
Raskin’s exit would follow that of Borna Barišić, John Lundstram and Ryan Jack, who all left the club this summer as part of a major rebuild. The midfielder’s potential departure further underscores the significant overhaul underway at Rangers as Martin prepares his squad for the 2025/26 season.
