Rangers have stepped up their summer transfer plans with a £4million bid for highly-rated Israeli striker Dor Turgeman – but their initial approach has been rejected by Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The 21-year-old forward has been identified as a key target by new manager Russell Martin, who has wasted little time putting his stamp on the squad following his appointment at Ibrox. Martin is keen to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new campaign, particularly with Champions League qualifiers looming and uncertainty surrounding the future of Danilo.
Turgeman, regarded as one of the brightest young talents in Israeli football, enjoyed a prolific 2024–25 season. He scored 13 goals in 22 league appearances for Maccabi Tel Aviv, and across all competitions, he racked up 20 goals and six assists in 44 games. His form has made him a sought-after prospect, with reported interest from clubs in Italy and Spain.
According to Israel Hayom, Rangers made a formal offer of £4million for the forward, but Maccabi Tel Aviv turned it down, believing it falls short of their valuation. Despite the rejection, Rangers remain in talks and are expected to return with an improved offer in the coming days.
Turgeman is admired by Martin, who tracked the striker during his tenure at Southampton. Now at the helm in Glasgow, Martin is eager to bring the Israel international to Scotland as part of a wider rebuild.
Backed by a £20million injection from the club’s new American owners, Rangers are looking to support their manager with a series of strategic signings aimed at narrowing the gap with Celtic and securing qualification for the Champions League group stages.
Turgeman’s qualities have clearly impressed the Ibrox hierarchy. His blend of pace, intelligent movement, and finishing ability fit the profile of striker Martin prefers in his high-tempo, pressing system. Statistically, Turgeman has averaged a goal every 115 minutes in the Israeli Premier League and is noted for his link-up play and ability to carry the ball from deep positions.
His versatility across the front line is also a key asset. While primarily a central striker, Turgeman has featured off both flanks and is comfortable dropping into midfield to knit play together – attributes that make him an ideal fit for Martin’s tactical plans.
The move could also have implications for Brazilian striker Danilo, whose time at Rangers has been disrupted by injuries. If Turgeman is signed, it may open the door for Danilo to move on, as the club look to refresh their forward line.
While Maccabi Tel Aviv are holding out for a higher fee, Rangers’ willingness to invest in young, high-upside talent suggests they will not walk away from negotiations easily. A second offer in the region of £5million is believed to be under consideration.
Turgeman, for his part, is reportedly open to a move to Europe, and Rangers can offer him a platform to develop while competing for domestic honours and playing in European competition.
