Everton FC Condemns Online Abuse Targeting Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s Wife
Everton Football Club has issued a strong statement condemning the “threatening” abuse directed at Sandra Calvert-Lewin, wife of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The incident occurred after she shared a social media post following Everton’s final match at Goodison Park, a 2-0 victory over Southampton in which Calvert-Lewin featured as a late substitute. In her post, she praised her husband’s achievements, highlighting his 30 goals at Goodison and his status among the top three scorers at the stadium. The celebratory message triggered a hostile reaction from some fans online, prompting Everton to intervene publicly with a statement denouncing the abusive behavior.
The club’s statement read:
“Everton Football Club strongly condemns the threatening, racist, and misogynistic abuse directed towards the wife of Dominic Calvert-Lewin on social media. This sinister and intimidating behaviour is not only deeply hurtful and distressing, it is also criminal — and does not represent the values of Everton or the overwhelming majority of our supporters. The Club has a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of discriminatory and abusive behaviour. We are working closely with Merseyside Police and the Premier League to ensure the individuals responsible are identified and held accountable for their actions. Threats or abuse of any kind — whether online or in person — are completely unacceptable and have no place in our game or in society. The Club urges anyone who sees or experiences such behaviour to report it to the authorities and relevant social media platforms immediately.”
The situation has sparked widespread condemnation across the football community, with many expressing solidarity with the Calvert-Lewins and calling for stronger measures to combat online abuse. Everton’s swift response underscores the club’s commitment to maintaining a respectful and supportive environment for all individuals associated with the club.
As investigations continue, the club remains in close contact with relevant authorities to address the issue and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Supporters are encouraged to report any instances of abuse to the appropriate channels to help eradicate such behavior from the sport.
