Callum McGregor on Brendan Rodgers’ Future at Celtic
Celtic captain Callum McGregor has expressed his desire for Brendan Rodgers to remain as manager of the club for as long as possible. McGregor believes Rodgers is an “elite-level manager” who has elevated Celtic to a new level of success.
Rodgers’ Impact on Celtic
McGregor praised Rodgers, stating, “He’s an elite manager at the highest level, and Celtic are lucky to have him as well.” He highlighted the club’s domestic success under Rodgers, saying, “Since he’s come in, he’s elevated the club to a new level. You just look at the domestic success that’s happened since then, and it’s been relentless, really.”
Rodgers’ Winning Mentality
McGregor also spoke about Rodgers’ winning mentality, recalling a time when the team won the League Cup final in 2017. Rodgers told the players, “No, no, no, we’re not coming off it. I’ll give you time to celebrate at the end of the season, you need to win this game as well.” McGregor said, “It’s that relentless nature, especially at Celtic, because the job is to win. You need to continue to win all the time. And he drives home that message for the players.”
McGregor’s Admiration for Rodgers
McGregor has a deep respect for Rodgers, describing him as a “top person” who cares about his players and profession. He said, “I see him every day. I see how he operates. I see the way he is around the training ground, and when he speaks, I’m starting to understand why he’s doing things. So that just comes over time.”
Rodgers’ Future
Despite Rodgers’ recent confirmation that he will remain as manager next season, his long-term future remains uncertain. McGregor believes that Rodgers would want to leave the club in the best possible way if he were to depart. He said, “If that is ever going to happen, I think he would let the club know and want to leave the club in the best possible way. Because that’s the type of guy he is as well.”
